A man used a knife to attack six people at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris on Wednesday morning, leaving one person seriously injured, a police spokesman said.
Police said the attacker was shot multiple times by police and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The man’s motives were not immediately clear, the force added.
A police source said the officer who shot the attacker was off duty.
The station is one of the busiest in Europe and is the main link between Paris, London and northern Europe.
Police secured the area after the attack, which happened around 0645 CET (0545 GMT).
Radio franceinfo quoted railway operator SNCF as saying trains were still operating normally.
