Since childhood, Lee Asher dreamed of establishing an animal sanctuary. And now that he’s finally there, he has the immense pleasure of befriending all sorts of incredible animals.
When a llamas named Franky made their way to his sanctuary, Lee tried all sorts of tactics to show him that he was trustworthy. But it wasn’t until the game was “hard to get” that Franky accepted give him a chance.
Llama Franky was found by a friend of Lee’s at a cattle auction after he was surrendered by his former owner. And because she was sure Lee would want to take Franky in, she brought him in. Asher’s House it is her.
His friend was right, and Lee immediately fell in love with Franky. The only problem is that Franky doesn’t like it very much he.
Whether it was the way he was treated before or simply because he was abandoned, Franky remained skeptical. So Lee spent a lot of time observing him and conversing with him in his pen. But Franky still wasn’t so sure.
“I really just started slowly, inching closer to him every day. Really let him know I’m not a threat. But the most important thing is to be patient with him,” Lee explained.
But even though Franky didn’t seem to care much about getting to know his new father, that didn’t deter Lee at least. He is determined to help Franky learn to trust him. He remained confident that one day, Franky would love him as much as he loved Franky. Somehow, he’s still sure they’ll be best friends in the end.
“My biggest thing is just for him to feel comfortable and safe around me. I just want it to get out of my hands,” Lee said.
In the end, after all the effort, he decided not to ignore Franky but to leave Franky alone and allow him to do his thing. He decided to play hard to get.
But apparently, some space is all Franky really needs to open up. Because not long after, it finally happened. Franky final decided to eat off Lee’s hand! After that enjoyable afternoon, Lee knew something had changed between them. He’s officially in Franky’s circle of trust!
