Mildred has been mistreated in life. When she was first brought in Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialist Center, all her bones were exposed, and she could barely stand. But Millie refused to give up. And little did she know, a wonderful man would soon embrace her and swear to support her for life.
Lee Asher is the founder of The Asher House, a nonprofit sanctuary located on the grounds of his home in Estacada, Oregon. Asher rescues and rehabilitates injured dogs. Those who have been abandoned, abandoned, abused and forgotten. Dogs love sweet Mildred.
Asher has a strong social media presence and documents all of his rescues as well as the daily lives of many of the permanent residents of his sanctuary.
Video taken the day he brought Millie home from the vet shows Mastiff slowly trudging towards Asher on weak and unsteady legs. Despite being a giant breed weighing around 130 pounds, Mildred weighs only 70.
Her eyes were closed, and her head was lowered as she timidly stepped into Asher’s outstretched arms. You can tell she’s nervous but also hopeful. She hasn’t given up on life or love yet.
Asher led Mildred to his car, where his two other rescue dogs greeted her warmly. The dog was not afraid at all. In fact, the video shows her dozing contently among her new canine friends as Asher’s car takes her to her new life.
In Asher’s House, some dogs ran to meet the newcomer. Millie strode as they sniffed all over her. She even wagged her tail as Asher led the group on a short walk. But it was clear that Mildred had a lot of work to do as her back became unstable and rendered her helpless.
After eating a bite, Millie cuddled up next to her resident puppy, PomPoms, for a good night’s sleep.
Next time we see Mildred, two months have passed. Her ribs are still visible, but she is stronger and healthier. According to Asher, she gained up to 100 pounds and gained every day. Her walking is much more steady, and she even runs after Asher’s ATV with other puppies! She also enjoys swimming and sailing with her lovely father.
