Since many of us depend on cars for our daily commute, it’s easy to forget that driving is always risky. Cars are heavy machinery, and accidents can happen to anyone. Fortunately, fire departments and emergency crews are ready to do whatever it takes to save lives in the event of an accident.
On the morning of February 11, 2021, a large pile occurred outside Fort Worth Texas. Nearly 100 vehicles were involved in the crash, which resulted in nearly a mile of wreckage. The cold rain made the southbound lanes of the highway slippery and frozen, making it extremely difficult for vehicles to stop in time. Several large trucks were also involved in the tragic accident, leaving several people dead and many others injured.
Paramedics and firefighters went from vehicle to vehicle, finding more victims every few minutes. Some people end up trapped inside their cars and need to be freed.
Heroes rescue people and their cubs from trouble
While it is the job of emergency responders to rescue people, they also help their furry friends whenever they can. An astonishing eyewitness video shows a firefighter picking up a black dog from a lorry lying between two other vehicles. The Fire Department also shared a photo of the teams holding a brown and white dog that looked uninjured.
According to protocol, rescue teams took the dog to a nearby shelter. Fortunately, that dog was soon reunited with a family member. An on-site veterinarian evaluated him and found no injuries. This puppy and at least one other are lucky to get out of such a horrific accident and thank heavens for the emergency crews that committed to saving them.
In a statementFort Worth Mayor Betsy Price expressed her sadness and appreciation to those involved:
“Our community is giving it their all and I know that many of you are asking for a way to help. Right now, what Fort Worth needs most is your prayers – for the families, the injured, and first responders. We will share updates in the coming days with any additional ways to support those in need during this difficult time.”
Add one worried about dogs involved in car accidents is the possibility of them running away. Panic and confused dogs that emerge after an accident have a pre-programmed fear response: run. If injured, this move may cause them more harm than good. That’s especially true in cases like these, when hypothermia is also a concern.
Since dogs can’t understand car crashes and how to survive an accident, it’s great that first responders are on hand to help them too. This story is still evolving, and hopefully survivors continue to heal.
