It’s no secret that most mothers will do anything to protect their children. Even mothers who are quiet and calm in all situations do not hesitate to reveal their inner feelings when their children are in danger.
That’s why it’s no surprise that a scared, homeless mama dog named Jade did exactly what she thought was necessary to protect her precious family.
It was Stephanie Brooks, a tourist visiting California from New Jersey, who first spotted Jade running down the street with one of the puppies in her mouth. She immediately texted Hope For Paws and asked for help. Hope For Paws is a nonprofit that sends a small rescue team to the scene to save animals in distress on the streets, facing death or in extreme danger.
With the goal of reaching the scene before sunset, the rescue team headed straight for Jade without stopping to find their signature takeaway cheeseburger, a delicious tool they often use to win hearts. information of endangered animals. When they arrived, they found Jade and her puppies lying under a small bush against a house. Stephanie even placed a portable pet gate around the one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier and her puppies.
At first, Jade feared the worst. She growled and threw her body over her newborn babies as rescuers approached. But with patience and gentle coaxing, the Hope for Paws group convinced her to go with them.
They were then able to confirm that Jade had recently given birth to a litter of puppies and sadly, the one she was carrying in her mouth had died.
“I believe that the little girl we named Citrine gave her life to save the rest of her siblings. Without her, Jade’s mother probably wouldn’t be able to signal for help with her remaining children Amber, Turquoise, Emerald, Topaz, Ruby, Amethyst and Diamond. Thank you Citrine for being their Little Angel in the sky and guiding your mom to the right people for help,” shared Loreta of Hope For Paws.
Jade and her puppies were then transported to the CARES animal hospital, where they were fed and medically cared for. While very nervous at first, Jade relaxed a bit after eating and nursing the puppy. However, the rescue could tell that something was still wrong with her. She still acts like something is wrong.
The next morning, Hope For Paws received another call from Stephanie. One of her neighbors admitted that she brought one of Jade’s dogs home with her, believing she could raise the puppy on her own. But after a long night of crying for his mother and no food, the neighbor realized he had made a huge mistake. She asked Stephanie to help her get the puppy back for her mother.
After reuniting, Jade gave her previously lost puppy a sniff and immediately began taking care of it. Despite being without food for 15 hours, Turquoise made it through and made a full recovery.
While it wasn’t the wisest decision to take one of the puppies away from its mother so soon, the fact that the neighbor admitted his mistake and did what was best for Turquoise showed a lot of courage. of the neighbour. This story could have ended much differently if they had tried to hide their mistake.
Since receiving medical care and then moving into foster care, Jade and all her puppies have found forever loving homes!
