Lotus Eletre in Malaysia – more than 500 orders for the electric SUV to date, deliveries starting Q4 2023

Lotus Cars Malaysia (LCM) has received more than 500 orders for lotus flower in Malaysia. That’s a big surprise when you consider the price of the electric SUV (great for what it’s worth, but RM578k to RM798k isn’t a small amount) and the fact that Lotus isn’t really a mainstream brand – it’s Hethel’s first EV and first SUV. In addition, there is currently no shortage of premium badging electric cars on the market.

in Eletre officially launched in April, LCM revealed that it already has 140 names on its order book, out of 200 allotted to Malaysia by 2023. With orders continuing to pour in, it looks like there will be a bit of a wait for those who have recently named one. The first deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

You may or may not like the look of the Eletre, but there’s no denying it’s eye-catching, as those of you who were at EVx 2023 over the weekend can testify. Beneath that sculpted body is a dual-motor AWD drivetrain for all three variants – the RM578,000 Eletre, the RM648,000 Eletre S and RM798,000 Eletre R ‘super SUV’.

The base Eletre and S have 605 hp and 710 Nm of torque, for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds and a 80-120 km/h sprint in just 2.2 seconds. Top speed is 258 km/h. That’s already very fast, but the Eletre R lifts things up a few notches with 905 hp, 985 Nm and a 0-100 km/h time of 2.95 seconds. The 80-120 km/h acceleration time is reduced to 1.9 seconds and the top speed is 265 km/h, making it the fastest two-motor electric SUV in the world, according to Lotus.

All three variants have a 112 kWh battery, giving the Eletre and Eletre S a range of 600 km on the WLTP cycle. The flagship R trades off some of that range for its phenomenal performance, but still manages a respectable and realistic 490 km WLTP. Charge as fast as the SUV itself – thanks to the 800-volt electrical structure that supports DC fast charging up to 350 kW, it takes only 20 minutes from a 10-80% state of charge.

Five driving modes are available as standard – Range, Tour, Sport, Terrain and Individual – with the Eletre R adding a Track mode. The latter applies further tuning to the active rear wheel steering, adaptive dampers and active anti-roll control, while fully opening the active front grille and allowing launch control.

Inside, all three variants are standard five-seaters, with a boot capacity of 688 liters with all seats and up to 1,532 liters with the rear seats folded – crazy performance aside, this is also a practical SUV. The car you see here has the optional Executive Seat package, which swaps the rear bench for two individual seats.

Speaking of options, customers can personalize their Eletre with several packages; these include the Lotus Dynamic Handling Package, Ceramic Brake Package, Comfort Seat Package, Carbon Fiber Package, Expansion Carbon Fiber Package and Interior Carbon Fiber Package, as well as the Parking Package and Highway Assist Package for the ADAS suite. Of course, ticking a few boxes will add to the base price quoted above.

A total of six exterior colors are offered for the Eletre, namely Natron Red, Galloway Blue, Stellar Black, Kaimu Grey, Blossom Gray and the bright Sun Gold you see here. The official distributor LCM offers a 5-year, 150,000 km factory warranty for the SUV, while the battery is covered by a separate 8-year, 200,000 km warranty.
