Lost Dog Who Ring Shelter Doorbell Up for “America’s Favorite Pet” Award

What is a sign that the staff and volunteers of an animal shelter love the animals they care for? The animals ran to the rescue even after they found their permanent home! Like the dog Bailey did when she got lost from her new family.

Bailey just left El Paso’s Animal Rescue in Texas a few weeks ago and is happily settling into her new home with dad Micah Baier and dog Bill. But as dogs will sometimes do, Bailey is separated from her dad and brother. Even so, she didn’t fret; She knows right where to go! And the dog lovers at the Animal Rescue Federation couldn’t believe they had found anyone ringing their doorbell.

Ding Dong! Bailey is back!

When Micah slipped a new harness over Bailey’s head, she freaked out and ran away. Micah called El Paso’s Animal Rescue Federation to inform them that Bailey was lost. They posted an urgent request for help in finding the “friendly” dog and the search went on for days, with Bailey being regularly seen. But Bailey had his own rescue.

Without any help, Bailey made the ten-mile journey from where she went missing to show up on ARL’s doorstep. But she didn’t want to just sit outside and wait, so she rang the doorbell to get into the building!

“Bailey returned to ARL herself and rang our Ring doorbell at 1:15 a.m. saying she wanted to come in,” ARL shared on Facebook. Facebook. “Staff ran to the shelter and took Bailey on the run. She is very happy, and so are we.”

Rescue team named Micah and Bailey have been reunited with her dad and dog Bill.

“Bailey shows she is capable of anything,” Micah tell KFOX14.

And Loretta Hyde, founder of the El Paso Animal Rescue Federation, agreed, saying KFOX In a separate interview, “These dogs are smarter than what people appreciate about them. How does she know which way to go?”

Now, Bailey’s intelligence has earned her and her brother Bill a spot as one of the top contestants in the competition. Contest “America’s Favorite Pet”. Voting will be over within a few days and soon this smart pup will find out if she and her brother won the title. The first prize winner will receive a Dogster Magazine spread and a cash prize of $5,000.

If Bailey takes the top spot, Micah plans to donate $1,000 in prize money to El Paso’s Animal Rescue League, shelter dogs love it, they’ll run again! The remainder of the cash prize will be used to turn the family van into a comfortable ride to spread the word about the greatness of animal rescue.
