Lizzo listens to ‘Grrrls’ again after criticism of writable lyrics: NPR

Singer-songwriter Lizzo has re-released her new single “Grrrls” with a change to the lyrics after it sparked heated discussions online about available languages.
The song will appear on her upcoming album Especially, received critical acclaim and excitement from many fans upon its release last Friday. Others, especially those in the disability community, expressed concern about her use of the word “spaz,” which many consider an obscenity.
It derives from the term “spasticity”, which was historically used to describe people with spasticity and cerebral palsy. Often used in a derogatory way to describe people in the disabled community, “spaz” or “spaz out” has also been used to refer to someone who has lost physical control or is simply acting out. “weird” or “rude” behavior. Webster’s New World University Dictionary defines it as “someone considered clumsy, clumsy, stupid, weird, etc.”
Lizzo released a statement on Monday acknowledging “harmful words” in her song and released a re-recorded version of the song without the slang in it. She wrote in her statement.
