The 32-year-old singer released the full version of the song “Carolina” from the new movie Where the Crawdads sing stroke at midnight on June 24.

“I wrote this alone in the middle of the night,” Swift shared on social media after release. She said she wanted the sound “to be as authentic as the time this story unfolds.”

If you go back to December, rather March, you might recall that fans first heard a trailer for “Carolina” in the movie’s trailer. They now have no space for the rest of the lyrics and can listen to the entire track.

Film Where the Crawdads sing based on the best-selling novel by Delia Owens. In a post shared to Instagram as the trailer debuted, Swift recalled how she was “completely hooked” with the book while reading it years ago. And after hearing that “unbelievable” Daisy Edgar-Jones has starred in the film and that “brilliant” Reese Witherspoon was producing it, she knew she “wanted to be a part of it from a musical perspective.” So the 11-time Grammy winner wrote “Carolina” alone and asked Aaron Dessner (who she also worked with folklore and always) to produce it.
