Lexus TX 2024 replaces RX L, 7-seater SUV but not available, made exclusively for North America
Lexus TX was launched with New Lexus GXbut while there’s some hope for the GX to hit showrooms in Malaysia, there’s little hope for the TX, which is made exclusively for the North American market.
It seems the market wants seven-seat SUVs with three rows of seats, and the TX will replace the RX L that won’t exist in the latest generation. It will be built at Toyota’s Indiana plant, the first Lexus to roll out of those doors.
The new Lexus TX measures 5,160 mm long, 1,990 mm wide and 1,780 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. For comparison, the latest generation Lexus RX is 4,890 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,696 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, giving the TX a wheelbase about 100 mm longer.
Among the three engine options, one stands out – the plug-in hybrid is based on a 3.5-liter normally aspirated V6 and a CVT transmission, which has generally been replaced by a turbocharged 2, 4 liter four cylinders are almost everywhere on the latest Toyota and Lexus cars.
It exists in the TX and in the DIRECT4 AWD hybrid system, which is paired with an electric motor on the rear axle. Called the TX 550h+, this is the first application of this particular combination. Total power is 406 hp.
The TX 500h is a pluggable hybrid that pairs a 2.4-liter turbo inline-4 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission to a DIRECT4 electric rear axle. Total power is 366 hp and 554 Nm of torque. The base TX is the TX 350 equipped with the same 2.4 turbo engine but without electrification, using an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers a total of 275 hp and 430 Nm of torque.
