Jane is an undercover investigator for Animal Equality who exposes some of the worst cruelty to animals on factory farms. The images she captures are changing the course of the history of domestic animals. But this isn’t just her fight. In this special letter she wrote to you, Jane explains how you too have the power to save animals!
As an undercover investigator infiltrating factory farms, it’s normal to build a wall within you to separate you from the horrors you see.
It is both a natural defense mechanism and the result of years of experience and training.
Much of what I capture with my camera is bleak, but there are a few things I keep in mind to keep me going.
There are moments I share with the animals I see.
When I was on the pig farm and no one was looking, I would talk to the mother pig stuck behind the bars of the farrowing barn.
It was difficult to look her in the eye, knowing she had no chance of escaping. But in those brief moments, I wanted her to feel the once-in-a-lifetime affection.
When I saw the piglet being carried away, I saw the man clutching a gun in his hand. I knew at that moment I would never see the little pig again. And I promised myself that I would do everything I could to uncover the truth. If not for these animals, then for animals like them that have not been born.
Their memories, and the memories I have of thousands of others, keep me going.
I also have the support of Animal Equality. I work with them because they can turn those stories into concrete, real change.
Seeing a video I captured turn into a pivotal national moment is powerful. It reminds me that every moment, no matter how gruesome it is witnessed, can be a spark of change that helps animals.
The stories we tell are heard all over the world. They inspire people everywhere to take action for animals and make more compassionate choices in their lives.

Pigs are highly social animals and are often considered to be more intelligent than dogs. You can protect these intelligent animals by choosing plant-based alternatives.
They also serve as the evidence needed to spur global companies and governments to make unprecedented changes.
I know Animal Equality won’t stop.
And then there’s you. I may never meet you, but I feel the warmth of your support everywhere I go.
The industry I’m exploring is incredibly rich and powerful. They employ thousands and thousands of people, more than animal advocates can afford.
But with you and all the others who have chosen to fight for animals, animals will have a chance.
I know that seeing animals crying and screaming in pain is something no one wants to see and you wish you could end all suffering immediately…
But unfortunately, that is not possible.
As difficult as it is for me, I have to accept that the animals I see will never be saved. It’s not something I have the power to do.
But you have the power to save the animals in the future. Animals that have not been born and without your help will face the same fate as the animals you see today.
With every investigation they launch, Animal Equality is changing the course of history. But if they are truly successful, they need your support today.
I know you may feel like it won’t make a difference. I have faced many moments where change seemed impossible.
Sometimes it feels like nothing happened; other times it seems to all happen at the same time. But change is happening, always.
