The Animal Advocacy and Veganism (AVA) Summit, held this May in Washington, DC, brought together leading figures in the animal advocacy movement. Among this year’s speakers are Animal Equality President Sharon Núñez, Latin America Vice President Dulce Ramírez and UK CEO Abigail Penny.

At the event, members of the Animal Equality group directed a booth displaying their virtual reality project. Known as iAnimal, this 360-degree investigative video takes viewers inside factory farms to witness animal cruelty firsthand. As they took turns wearing virtual reality headsets, two attendees held hands to comfort each other.

What is AVA Summit?

The AVA Summit is a global gathering of animal and plant advocates, featuring keynotes, workshops and networking activities. Its goal is to bring together experts and organizations to share the latest trends and strategies, learn from each other’s campaign efforts, and connect with a broader community.

Building community within our movement is vital…A united community can more effectively address challenges and inspire broader social changes toward compassion and respect. Respect all animals.

This commitment reflects the collective achievements we see globally, especially in Latin American countries. These countries are making significant strides in supporting farming, with clear progress in political agendas, legislation and government actions. This should fill us all with pride and hope for the future.

After Ramírez’s speech, President Sharon Núñez participated in a podcast titled How I learned to love shrimp. In this podcast, Núñez discussed how Animal Equality has become more organized and strategic over time, launching full-scale campaigns against cruelty in company’s supply chain.

Bit by bit, [we were] both learning and becoming more sophisticated with our strategies…Now, we standing outside Denny’s with a banner, but as part of a campaign with specific goals to be achieved by a specific timeline that gets us closer to eliminating pregnancy crates.
