The Factory Honda WorldSBK team will again run Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge on the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade for the 2023 WorldSBK championship season.
Iker Lecuona
“We learned a lot last year and achieved some good results, such as pole position in Barcelona and podium in Assen, which we didn’t really expect because it was just a leg. second race. Overall, it was definitely a very positive year and it helped me to grasp a lot of things, such as how to manage situations in every race and in every track, as well as with the Pirelli tires that were difficult at first. understand. I plan to exploit all that I have learned in 2022 next year. During the winter, the team and everyone in the Honda factory worked very hard to bring us a better bike. We still have two days of testing left in Australia before the first race, so we have time to understand the new material and find the best setup to get the best out of it. We started with two laps that I wasn’t able to compete in last season, but I like both races, feel good and ready to give it my all.”
And while the 2023 paint job of the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE welcomes PT Astra Honda Motor to the list of official sponsors, the team has focused on what lies beneath the skin for the limited time from end of the 2022 season to the end of the season. The opening of the 2023 season is about to take place in Australia.
Xavi Vierge
“This is my second year at WorldSBK and so we will benefit from not having to start from scratch. Now we know many tracks and understand how tires and electronics work, whereas it was a big challenge for me last year. 2022 was not an easy season but we scored some good results and showed our potential. They’ve been working hard in Japan and so we have a lot of work to do and elements to check out over the winter. I’m really happy with the way it’s all gone and now we just need to define our basic setup for the season. Testing is great but it can’t compare to racing. Luckily this year we started early and there is no better place than Australia and Indonesia. I love those tracks, especially Phillip Island. It was my first time going there in February, it was summer, so I’m looking forward to going there and starting a great season.”
Team manager Leon Camier and drivers Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge talked about what they learned last season and what they look forward to now, while also being aware that the level of competition in 2023 will higher than ever.
Leon Camier – Team Manager, Team HRC
“The 2022 World Superbike season is a good foundation year for our two young rookies. Over the course of the season, we were able to see what both of them were capable of and were impressed by how quickly they were able to adapt to new circuits and different situations. Now that we’ve learned so much, we can aim to focus on race performance right from FP1. We have worked hard in many areas and improved in many aspects. 2023 begins now and we are ready. The goal is to improve globally, both with the bike siding with the team and working to take it a step further overall. Our top speed has always been really good with Fireblade, but we have to keep working to improve in every aspect. When you bring a new specification of a certain component to improve in one area, you sometimes find this puts you back in another. This is something Honda has been working very hard on in Japan and we are confident that this year we will take another step in the right direction. To expect to go from where we were last season to aiming for a title will be difficult, but this is essentially our goal and one that we will continue to work towards until the end. achieve it.”
