Land Rover Defender is expected to have an electric variant by 2025

Land Rover has gradually expanding Defender range since launch second generation model for the 2020 model year, according to a recent report, the off-roader will receive a mid-cycle update in 2025, and the range is said to grow to include an electric model.

Do not cite sources, British magazines automatically express Written that the 90, 110 and 130 variants will be offered as electric vehicles in the coming years. It looks like going electric will require making significant changes underneath the bodywork: The publication believes the updated Defender will switch to the MLA Flex architecture as the foundation Latest Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. It stopped providing technical details but added that the power Range Rover slated for launch in 2024 will provide approximately 300 miles of range from 100 kilowatt hours the battery pack.

The availability of an electric powertrain doesn’t mean the petrol-burning Defender will disappear from the catalog. And while some powertrain-specific styling cues will distinguish the EV from other models in the range, the updated Defender will look the same as the model currently in showrooms. Newer in-car technology will also be part of the update, though the interior won’t change much either.

Land Rover did not comment on the report. If it’s accurate, the battery-powered Defender is due out in 2025 and likely won’t be in showrooms until the 2026 model year. One of its most direct rivals will be the Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class launch in 2024.
