KHRC Tuesday Hearing May Issue Dutrow KY License
Next Tuesday, May 30, the Kentucky Equestrian Commission’s License Review Committee will meet to determine the status of Richard Dutrow’s training license in the state of Kentucky.
Dutrow recently regained his license in New York starting January 17, 2023 after a 10-year suspension. The New York State Game Commission revoked Dutrow’s license and fined the trainer $50,000 when one of his horses, Fastus Cactus, was found to have traces of butorphanol in his system after when winning a race at Aqueduct race track on November 20, 2010. A search of his warehouse also discovered three syringes of xylazine, a muscle relaxant.
Best known as the coach of 2008 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) heroes big brown Dutrow started training in 1979 and has brought in 1,812 winners from 7,207 starts with earnings of $87,572,940 through May 26.
Dutrow saddled his first winner since serving a suspension on May 6 when Prince of the Pharoahs won a May 6 allowance race at Belmont Park. He was also recently appointed as new coach for C2 Racing Stable and 1st place winner of La Milagrosa Stable White Abarrio next Churchill Downs‘ indefinitely suspends coach Saffie Joseph Jr.
According to KHRC’s announcement, “the committee will reconvene in open session to vote on the participants’ license applications.” There are four other coaches, Patricia Brewer, David Ward and Francesca de la Flor also under consideration for licenses.
Dutrow tried to get a license in Kentucky in 2020, but the KHRC voted not to rule on Dutrow’s license application and they voted unanimously to allow him to withdraw it.
