Kell Brook-Amir Khan: No more unfinished business

“That seems like a perfect match,” I wrote, “at least it will be on paper. Kell Brook, the undefeated IBF welterweight champion of the world, faced off against Amir Khan, the former silver medalist who is said to have the fastest hands in boxing, in an all-British superfight. ” Those words were written in 2015. “Unfortunately,” I added, “that match doesn’t seem likely.”

“Khan,” I continued in my long post, “wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. And until or unless Mayweather chooses someone else as his opponent in September, Khan probably won’t agree to fight anyone. Of course, that’s too bad for Brook, as he wants to see Khan in the ring from now on. “However, I added, that could prove to be too bad for Khan.

Sure, Khan never got into a fight with Floyd Mayweather. He is also not allowed to enter the ring with legend Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines. And he certainly wasn’t in the ring with Brook. Certainly, each boxer has gone his own way, shooting for glory while taking on some of the biggest names in the sport. Khan went on to battle Canelo Alvarez and Bud Crawford. Brook continues to face Crawford, Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence. No boxer can beat any of these illustrious names – but the bravery, ambition, and gaming skills of these two have earned them (perhaps reluctantly) nods of approval. fan base.

And then, before anyone knew it, time had passed. Khan and Brook are over 30 years old, the glory days seem to be behind. However, these Brits still have one more moment in the limelight ahead of them. Because each has unfinished business with the other. Finally, belatedly, it was reported that Khan and Brook would face off in the ring. Fans sighed in disappointment as the match was oversold. However, the “better late than never” feeling seems to have finally subsided.

Indeed, better late than never. While Brook essentially beat Khan from turret to turret in their long overdue fight this Saturday, it’s certain that each fighter is giving 100% in the ring. Brook stalks his man, fire in his eyes, while Khan, clearly on his way to defeat, continues to boxing, hoping for the best possible for his man with speed and heart. His chin simply doesn’t allow that to happen. Brook walked out of the ring with a TKO victory, while the public nodded in satisfaction that the veteran fighters were able to shine once more in the limelight.

Credit to both.
