Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are lighting up New York City ahead of the super fight at Madison Square Garden.
The two boxers will battle it out in front of a five-figure crowd at the iconic venue Saturday night with Taylor putting her undisputed light crown on the strings.
Preparations for battle week are well underway, and with media assignments, the two women made a visit to The Big Apple’s Empire State Building, where they first met. The landmark will be lit with the colors of the flags of Ireland and Puerto Rico on the night of the fighting to mark the historic event.
Taylor, Ireland’s Golden Girl, is looking forward to the atmosphere at MSG, which has hosted some of boxing’s most memorable nights.
“You can almost feel the iconic moments of the past while you’re there. There will be a lot of Irish fans in the building, I think it could easily be a 50-50 crowd with a lot of Amanda fans, so it creates a great atmosphere.
“You think about Madison Square Garden, and you think about people like Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier these types of fights. Years later, we’re still talking Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier fighting. I think years after this fight, people will still talk about Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano. “
Not only would Serrano become an undisputed lightweight champion if she won, but the 33-year-old would become number one in women’s boxing and will always be remembered as the boxer who set an all-time record. Taylor’s defeat.
The Puerto Rican, once the seventh-weight world champion, believes she can now say she has succeeded.
