Kate Garraway says husband’s health improved after COVID made him ‘fight for his life’ | News about Ant-Man & Art
Broadcaster Kate Garraway said her husband’s health was beginning to improve after it took a “scary turn for the worse” that left him “fighting for his life”.
Former political adviser Derek Draper, 54, is seriously ill with Coronavirus in March 2020, suffered long-term damage to his internal organs and required daily care.
In an update on social media, Garraway55 years old, explains her recent three-week absence from TV and radio.
“Derek’s health took an unexpected and frightening turn, with the worse sending him back into intensive care and fighting for his life – again,” she wrote.
But thanks to “the amazing NHS team and his own incredible energy and spirit, Derek – please, thank God – is right back to being,” she added.
Garraway said she is looking forward to broadcasting again and “hopes to celebrate” victory for the Lions team at Euro 2022.
She also thanked everyone for “all of your messages of support”, saying they “really mean to the world to me and my family”.
Garraway and Draper married in 2005 and have two children, Darcey and Billy.
Last year, she won an award at the National Television Awards for the documentary Finding Derek, about her family’s traumatic experience before the pandemic.
Earlier this year, Garraway said she was finding a “new way to love” with her husband as he recovers from prolonged COVID.

She told Mail On Sunday’s You magazine: “I’m not sure we’re out of love yet, but I think a new path is emerging, a new way to love.
“He put a lot of faith in me. He just said, ‘Whatever you think’, which is great, but I’m pretty tearful about it. I thought, ‘God, I hope. I hope I deserve that trust. “
“But I got him back. It’s a relationship by itself, isn’t it?”
