Kareem Hunt Sr., father of latest Browns to tear down team, Baker Mayfield: ‘He’s scared of pitching’

If the Browns thought their fatherhood problems had disappeared after the passing of Odell Beckham Jr., think again.

Another player’s father has spoken out calling for Cleveland’s offense after the 16-10 loss to the Ravens in “Sunday Night Football” in Week 12. That would be Kareem Hunt Sr.

Hunt Sr. took to Facebook to “present the truth” about the Browns’ offense. Those facts included criticism of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, who Hunt Sr said was “limbed” and “fearful of pitching” during the game against Baltimore.

NFL POWER RANKINGS: Patriots, 49 increase after victory

Below is the full post from Hunt Sr., courtesy of his Facebook page.

To be fair to Hunt, this isn’t quite the same situation as Odell Beckham Sr. Beckham Sr. posted a video performing multiple pitches highlighting the failed connection between Mayfield and his son as young Beckham was looking to bid farewell to the Browns. That caused a stir in the Cleveland dressing room amid Mayfield and Beckham’s already fractured relationship.

Hunt is just letting off steam and getting frustrated after a loss. He may also be a bit flustered that his son has only received seven touchdowns in total when he returns from a five-week absence with a calf injury.

And while Hunt Sr is criticizing Mayfield, he also seems to blame the team more for leaving the quarterback on the field despite some of the injuries he’s been dealing with.

“They knew he was injured,” Hunt wrote in the post.

Mayfield suffered a labia majora in her shoulder that could not be thrown and fractured her collarbone. He missed a game – a week 7 tilt against the Broncos – because of those injuries. Since then, however, he has added a bruised knee and a heel injury to his growing list of ailments.

RIVERA: Baker Mayfield injury update for 2021 | Will the Browns reserve him?

Mayfield was wearing a harness to protect his shoulders, but he clearly felt uncomfortable on the field on Sunday night. He would sometimes limp and bleed at various points throughout the evening. Apparently those injuries affected him in his performance of 18/37 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown.

Also, Mayfield’s performance this season is below average. He posted a QBR of 37.9 this season, good for a 26th out of 32 NFL qualifying quarterbacks.

But Cleveland and their coaching staff know it. So, while Hunt may have an opinion on Mayfield’s struggles, his offering doesn’t do much for the Browns as they navigate a bumpy 3-5 mile stretch. If anything, it will only create more tension between Mayfield and his players as the 6-6 Browns look to improve on attack and make a playoff.
