Karak motorcycle accident caused by car changing lanes – police call for information


Following an accident involving five superbikes on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway yesterday, police believe the incident happened when one of the motorcycles swerved to avoid a car that was changing lanes. According to Assistant Commissioner of Gombak District Police Zainal Mohamed Mohamed, the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. when a group of motorcyclists riding large displacement motorcycles were traveling from Genting Highlands to Gombak.

“A motorist is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle veered into the lane the rider was traveling in,” said Zainal. “Four other riders in the group were also involved in the crash when they were unable to avoid the first motorcycle from falling,” he said in a statement reported in the Daily Mail. Zainal added that the five riders were between the ages of 35 and 58 and suffered head and body injuries. “All the victims were taken to Selayang Hospital and treated in the Red and Yellow Zones in the emergency department,” Zainal said.

Police are investigating an incident under Section 43(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987 involving careless and reckless driving. Zainal also asked witnesses of the crash or those with information to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigation Inspector Mohd Shaifuddin Mohd Nor at 0176645812 or 03-61262222.
