One of my favorite things about living in Mile High City is all food trucks Roaming the neighboring areas here. I regularly go to good mobile dining establishments like Tacos el Huequito, Mikes2Kitchenand Yuan Wontonand i’m satisfied with that South Denver metal-centered Brutal Poodle bar Available now its own food truck. The sad part about the food truckhowever, are they truckand sometimes old trucks wear out and have to be sent to forte yard. Here’s a once-successful food truck in Denver that met that fate and is now in a self-service courtyard just south of the city.
This truck started as a member of UMC Aeromate family, built in Indiana by a company now known as Utilimaster. I couldn’t find much useful information about this particular model, there seems to be a windshield and nose of one of many. RV based on UMC instead of the typical long muzzle of most Aeromats.
What I do know that it’s based on an early 1990s Chrysler small truck frame, complete with 3.3 liter V6 engine and instrument cluster on a 1992 Plymouth Voyager. The 3.3-liter engine produced 150 hp in 1993, and it was installed on Chrysler pickup trucks until 2010.
150 horses (and 180 pound-feet) isn’t much for a large truck packed with a complete kitchen, and the strain on a Torqueflite automatic transmission is designed for a truck. 3,400-pound kid must be very serious. I don’t think the powertrain on this 29-year-old truck can handle the demands of a group of sandwich entrepreneurs working hard in the harsh weather and traffic conditions of the High Plains Colorado.
The county permit sticker expired at the end of 2019, so it took several years for this UMC to reach this location.
Don’t cry because big small bread truckthough, because LBST Empire has upgraded to a newer version, built by GM school bus a few years ago and seems to be selling sandwiches outside of Denver-area breweries to this day.
Headlights and markers clearly come from one Last Generation Dodge Caravan / Plymouth Voyager (the second-generation Chrysler pickup truck, launched in the 1991 model year, had different noses). The grille looks like RV-specific equipment.
I have see a few junked ice cream truck over the years, but somehow a bread truck with a stencil-snorkeling dachshund seems sadder.
