Josh Taylor could face the next WBC mandate challenge

Josh Taylor could face WBC mandatory challenger Jose Zepeda in the next game.

Champion, who also holds the WBO and IBF ultralightweight belts, now without his WBA strap after vacating it last week despite a statement from the regulator that he had been disenfranchised.

Although Taylor said she will move to heavyweight later his victory over Jack Catterall Scots future could remain at 140lbs. Top rating, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ promoter, confirmed the news to Sky Sports.

“We are working with both teams to continue this fight,” said their president, Todd Duboef.

The WBC ordered Taylor to face Zepeda calling for a tender on May 24.

“We met in Puerto Rico, four presidents, Paco Valcarcel, Daryl Pe People, Gilberto Mendoza and I and we had a deal,” said WBC boss Mauricio Sulaiman.

“We sat down, we discussed that split, and it was clear to me that [Jack] Next is Catterall which is a mandatory WBO. This is followed by Zepeda as the required WBC, and followed by the IBF.

“For some weird reason, the WBA simply went out and asked for another fight, and now they either take the title away from Josh Taylor, or Josh gives up. Which is possible, but it’s very unfortunate. ”

Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs) won the right to face Taylor according to Duboef.

“Zepeda will take on last year’s performance Baranchyk and KO in the first round against Vargas in October. These together have earned him the required spot for Josh’s WBC crown. ”
