Josh Kelly “100%” wants to challenge Troy Williamson for British title
Josh Kelly has made it clear that he wants to fight Troy Williamson for the British Super Welterweight title.
This month’s British Championship finals saw the Boxing Control Board put up a showdown between two Northeastern fighters for the money to bid.
Bids will be submitted by August 10 with the title fight set to take place at the end of December 2022.
Kelly, promoted by Kalle Sauerland, Saturday night title card in Newcastle this saw him go up against Lucas Brian Bastida of Argentina.
This will be the second of his promotional deal with Wasserman Boxing, who is looking to transform the Sunderland boxer into a mainstream star in front of a Channel 5 audience on terrestrial television.
A fight against Troy Williamson will not only be a serious test in this period of career rebuilding, but it could also be an intense one.
Speaking in a Wasserman press release, Kelly had this to say on the matter.
“I 100% want that fight. The Northeast doesn’t have enough of these showing up here, we’re fighting everyone and I’ve been fighting all my life. “
“Here I am, when you were born in the Northeast, you were a warrior from the beginning; no luxury. That war is a big one for the Northeast, and I want to win it. After I win here on Saturday, let’s get started. “
Last week on social media, Williamson said he wants to face Kelly in the fall and will be cheering him on this weekend.
Still silent from @JOSHPBK I hope he gets the job done next week. I’ll be sitting next to him cheering him on and hopefully we can get it done in the fall, giving the fans what they want.#LET’S GO BABY

“It’s nice to be back in the Northeast. I feel like the energy here is different, and I bounce off that energy.”
“I appreciate everyone. Let’s all come together on Saturday and make a lot of noise, not just for me but for all the local strugglers on the card. It’s going to be a hell of a show, and we’re going to have a broadcast. Let’s go!”
