Joel Embiid can complete trust in the process in Philly if Philadelphia 76ers cannot play for a championship in the near future.
Embiid was named the NBA’s Best Player for the 2022-23 season and enters his eighth season with the franchise considering his next move.
“I just want to win the championship. No matter what happens,” Embiid said in an interview with Maverick Carter that took place Thursday at the Uninterrupted Sports Film Festival. “I don’t know where that’s going to happen, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else, I just want the chance to get there. I want to see what that first win feels like, and then you can think about the next one. It’s not easy, but it takes more than one or two, three people. You have to have good people around you, and myself, every day, I work hard. just to get to that level so I can make it happen. So every day, I’m working towards that.”
Although the interview took place on Thursday, the video of the conversation gained attention on Monday on social media.
Embiid said he “loves the challenge” of hearing other players mentioned for MVP and proving himself.
Embiid said: “I understand the business, it’s fun; At the end of the day, I think about it like this: I’m incredibly lucky.
Embiid was in Los Angeles to launch his own studio, but he doesn’t seem to have any control over who will be his co-star next season.
He was paired with Ben Simmons And James Harden when the 76ers tried to make it through the Eastern Conference. Simmons was traded for Harden, who returned last season for less than the maximum contract price just to claim the trade in the 2023-24 season. Harden is said to have informed the 76ers that he wants to play for Laser cutting.
Embiid said last month that he hopes Harden will still change his mind.
Embiid signed a four-year, $213 million contract extension in 2021 that runs through 2026-27 and averages over $52 million per season.
