Jockey and veterinarian Peterson Now to practice in KY
With a primary focus on his horse racing career, Ferrin Peterson will continue to drive customers on Rice Road (behind Keeneland), Lawn Parkand the Thoroughbred Training Center in Kentucky while working part-time with a local horse ranch.
“I applied for a Kentucky veterinary license in November when I first moved to Lexington, and it took several months to complete all the paperwork and background checks.”
Peterson originally earned a veterinary degree in California; She practiced medicine for small animals and later obtained licensure in New Jersey and New York.

“I have been working with Hagyard (Equine Health Institute) for the past few months, and now I should be able to practice on my own,” says Peterson. “I’ll be working in the barn and with the ponies. The spawning time is set according to my schedule.”
Peterson has 865 career starts and a record 85-94-111 with earnings of $2,792,470. Most recently, she rode for trainers Jack Sisterson, Sarah Hamilton, and Ryan Walsh at Turfway Park.
“My first priority is my horse racing career,” Peterson said. “It’s great to be in a racing state; they understand the hours I go to the racecourse (seven days a week and stay there until 10:00 a.m.). I’m a busy person, so I also plan to work on tomorrow. dark days.”
