Jetour arrives in Malaysia in the second half of 2024 – Chery SUV brand; Dashing, X70 launched this year; Electric vehicles are planned

Chery has entered the Malaysian market with fire with its main brand. solid here and its lifestyle orientation Jaecoo The brand launched very soon. But that’s not done yet – a third brand is being readied for local entry here and that is Jetour.

This SUV brand is expected to launch in the second half of this year, not long after Jaecoo. But wait – aren’t Chery and Jaecoo already their own SUV brands? Yes, but at least in Malaysia, Jetour and Chery (and Jaecoo) are being managed by two completely separate entities, so they will end up being competitors on the same turf.

Jetour’s SUVs are also a bit more premium than the Chery, which will be reflected in the cars that will be included. This year will see the launch of the 5-seat Dashing and 7-seat X70 Plus (not to be confused with Proton X70), competing in segment C and D markets respectively.

Jetour is radiant

Dashing is a newer version, based on Jetour’s Kunlun architecture. This sleek, premium SUV has nuances Lamborghini Urus And Maserati Grecale in its design, along with chrome windows/D-pillar strips and flush pop-out door handles. Inside, you’ll get a floating infotainment touchscreen measuring up to 15.6 inches, a flat top and bottom for the steering wheel, and even an outside temperature display on the doors.

But although the Dashing looks different from the Chery and Jaecoo on the outside, the mechanics are very similar. You can choose from two turbocharged four-cylinder engines – 156 PS/230 Nm 1.5 liter from the Omoda 5 or 1.6 liter unit 197 PS/290 Nm from Tiggo 7 Pro And Jaecoo J7. Unlike the Omoda 5, the Dashing’s 1.5-litre engine is mated to the same seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission as the 1.6-litre version, instead of a CVT.

The same is true of the larger X70 Plus, which has the same 1.5 and 1.6 liter turbochargers and DCT, as well as the 256 PS/390 Nm 2.0 liter turbocharged engine from the X70 Plus version. Tiggo 8 Pro. This bike has been around since Jetour’s founding in 2018; The Plus in its name denotes a comprehensive upgrade that adds sleek headlights, a large hexagonal grille, full chrome window surrounds and full-width taillights.

Jetour X70 Plus

Inside, you get a Mercedes-style widescreen display panel with a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, along with a Land Rover-like separate screen and physical dials for the air conditioning. Of course, there is a worrying issue: the X70 Plus has the same name as a certain national SUV and a Jetour representative said the car may be renamed for the Malaysian market.

Both of these cars were chosen for launch in Malaysia because they were the first to be converted to right-hand drive, with small-scale production having begun late last year for us and Indonesia. The company will start implementing CKD’s domestic assembly operations from the beginning (like Jaecoo) to be able to compete with other companies in the segment in terms of price.

Additionally, Jetour also plans to introduce the Traveler (also known as the T2), a rugged crossover with styling similar to the Ford Bronco And Land Rover defender. The company had planned to bring this car in with the other two, but production of the RHD variant has been delayed and is now only expected to start in July or August.

Taking into account the CKD tool as well as the usual validation and approval process, the Traveler is expected to go on sale in Malaysia next year. There are also plans to enter the electric vehicle market through an as-yet-unannounced sedan, although no details have been clearly established.

Jetour established its Malaysia office a few months ago as a separate company from Chery Malaysia with an independent management team. Since then, it has continuously cooperated with government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Land Transport Authority to obtain the necessary approvals for Dashing and X70 Plus.
