Jermell Charlo wants no doubt in his rematch with Brian Castano
Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano fought for a draw in July last year in a much-anticipated bout, said to have crowned an undisputed young middleweight champion.
Charlo doesn’t want the judges to have a say in the matter when they meet again on May 14 in Carson, California.
“I want to take this guy down,” he said. “This is Jermell before, when I was fighting four rounds and I was trying to finish those games. I want to be that guy for 12 rounds now. …
“I got locked a little differently this time,” he continued. “I am more dedicated than ever. I’m more hungry. I don’t know what comes next after this opportunity in my life and I’m so glad God gave me the chance to face the same guy and just put on a better performance.
“This is about me being the best Jermell Charlo.”
Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) is one of the most successful 154-pound athletes of his generation, a two-time world champion titleholder.
Still, being the undisputed champion would make the 31-year-old Texan one of the most accomplished young middleweight contenders of all time.
“This is one of the achievements a boxer can have – fighting to be undisputed – so I’m going to enjoy the moment and I’ll be happy to be there on May 14th, next year. the day before my birthday. , “I said.
“I am ready to win this fight impressively. I hope I get judges who really understand boxing. People are used to me knocking people down that when I’m not knocking someone down it’s a problem. ”
He continued: “Once the story was written and the book was done, people would come back and say Jermell Charlo did a great job at 154. I held back. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in the team, but I have to achieve Castano dodged.
“I have to show all the fans why I’ve been the number one guy and the number one guy for so many years. I possess a different kind of power. I have a different kind of strength when I punch. I’m Hagler and Hearns got together and I have 12 rounds to do it. ”
