Jermall Charlo has made it clear that he is not a fan of David Benavidez.
Over the past few months, both sides have shot at each other. Lately, however, Benavidez has grown weary of trivia and has urged Charlo to step inside the ring against him.
After a seventh stoppage-time win over competitor Kyrone Davis on November 13, an excited Benavidez questioned Charlo’s heart, desire and willingness to face him.
“Big Charlo wants to take it too?” Benavidez asked after stopping Davis. “He didn’t want to be in the ring with me because he was the reason why.”
While Benavidez would love to unleash disastrous hits on the Houston native, he’s more enamored with the idea of competing against heavyweight star Canelo Alvarez.
As for Charlo, the 31-year-old WBC middleweight holder has stated time and time again that he will be promoted to super middleweight if the match against Alvarez can be made. Regarding the weight gain to confront Benavidez, Charlo showed little or no interest.
“F*ck Benavidez,” Charlo said on a self-recorded video. “He doesn’t even have a belt.”
As for what might be next for the sudden knockout artist, he seems to have plenty of options. In a consistent thread, WBO middleweight athlete Demetrius Andrade has expressed interest in unifying titles against Charlo. In addition to the slick former athlete, Charlo hopes to finally solidify the showdown against longtime reigning middleweight Gennadiy Golovkin.
In addition to his picks at 160 pounds, Charlo also showed curiosity during his match against Caleb Plant. The former IBF super-middleweight player dropped his world title just weeks ago to Alvarez in his bid to become the sport’s first all-time super-middleweight champion.
