For a model that’s only been on the market for three years, Jeep car engineers did a lot of research under the bodywork of the JL-series Wrangler. There’s been a refresh for the 2021 model year and its increased tech options, the 392 V8, the tired Willys Xtreme Recon and the 4xe dip into the mixture powertrain system. We have read about more than one Fighter Shoppers expect the Wrangler’s 4xe powertrain to make its way into the pickup truck this year or next, but that’s not believed to be the case. Mopar Insiders Credit Sources inside Stellantis say that there will be no Gladiator 4xe on sale in the US until the 2024 model year.
Granted, product planners have prioritized the Wrangler’s mid-cycle update, slated for the 2023 model year. The Gladiator will, in turn, get a slight change next year, with the payload processor getting a revamp. will apply the changes made to the Wrangler and add the rather popular PHEV powertrain serving the Wrangler and 2022 Grand Cherokee. The strength of that engine system is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powered by 17 kWh. the battery Working two electric motors. Total system output stands at 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet, but it’s possible these numbers will change after the refresh.
NS EPA rates the Wrangler 4xe at 49 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent), by far the best in the Wrangler group and 21 miles of all-electric driving. Jeep says it expects the Grand Cherokee 4xe to return 57 MPGe, possibly because the Grand Cherokee is more aerodynamically friendly than the shoebox-shaped Wrangler. Since the Gladiator is about 500 pounds heavier than the Wrangler while not having any wind resistance, don’t be surprised if the Gladiator’s EPA numbers are stripped of some of its heavy SUV cousin.
