Conservative MP Jamie Wallis has pleaded not guilty to four traffic offences.
Appearing at Cardiff Magistrates Court, Mr Wallis, who is representing Bridgend, denied failing to stop or report a road traffic collision, driving carelessly and attentively and leaving the vehicle in place. dangerous position on November 28 of last year.
The charges relate to a late-night collision in which a Mercedes crashed into a light pole in Llanblethian, South Wales.
Mr Wallis, 37 and from Cowbridge in South Wales, was later arrested on suspicion of “inappropriate driving”, the court heard.
Mike Williams, prosecutor, said witnesses spoke of a “loud bang” and described the politician as “extremely unsteady” before leaving the scene in another vehicle.
The court said Mr Wallis was suffocated by police after being arrested at his father’s property the next morning.
Mr. Williams testified in court that Mr. Wallis had given a reading of 7 (micrograms per 100 milliliters of breath). The legal limit is 35.
Jon Wilkins, the defense, said Mr Wallis was “in shock” and “disoriented” after the collision, and that he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
District Judge Tan Ikram set a July 11 date for the trial at the same court.
Leaving the building, Mr Wallis declined to comment on whether he would resign if found guilty.
In March, he announced that he was transgender.
Speaking to Sky News last month, he said he hoped to start the transition “as quickly as possible”.
