Jaecoo J7 Malaysia: First 500 units delivered to dealers

The Jaecoo J7 has received quite a bit of attention since it was released. launched last monththanks to the starting price being just slightly higher than the relevant price Chery Tiggo 7 Pro – and significantly lower than the original estimate. In fact, I’ve seen one in my own housing estate, which is how fast the Chery-owned brand is going.

There’s a reason for that. The company has announced that it has delivered the first 500 J7s to dealers – just three weeks after launch – putting it right on track for the Q3 timeframe (though it should be noted that the launch itself has been pushed back a bit from its original first-half schedule). Jaecoo Malaysia says it has been building a self-sufficient ecosystem and network for this moment in the past seven months.

The original units left Chery Corporate Malaysia Shah Alam Factory – exclusive to the Jaecoo brand at the moment – are four-wheel drive models, priced at RM148,800 on-the-road without insurance. The next batch of J7s, scheduled for delivery in September, will be two-wheel drive models priced at RM138,800.

The J7 is being positioned as a more premium alternative to the usual C-segment SUVs, with Land Rover-inspired design, higher levels of interior fit and finish, and a large 14.8-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen. Both variants are powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the Tiggo 7 Pro, making 197PS and 290Nm – sent through a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.

Aside from the all-wheel drive (and additional driving modes on the AWD model), the equipment list is identical between the two trims, including automatic LED headlights, 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels, smart key with remote start, push-button start, power seats with memory, heating and ventilation, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a panoramic glass sunroof, a 360-degree camera, an eight-speaker Sony audio system, and a hands-free power liftgate.

The list of driver assistance features is also long and includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality and cornering deceleration, lane keeping assist, intelligent collision avoidance system, rear collision warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, forward departure warning, open door warning, automatic high beams and parking assist.

“We are focused on maintaining steady momentum in J7 order deliveries in the coming months,” said Emily Lek, vice president of Jaecoo Malaysia. “We are also pleased to share that our network is ready to immerse our customers in Jaecoo’s premium ‘From Classic, Beyond Classic’ customer experience, from vehicle delivery to after-sales service.”
