Jaecoo J6 EV goes on sale in Thailand, priced from RM139k – Boxy electric SUV to arrive in Malaysia early 2025

The Jaecoo J6 Now open for reservations in Thailand. The EV looks like a baby Land Rover Defender Available in the Land of Smiles in two configurations – Long Range 2WD with an estimated price of 1.099 million baht (RM138,715) and Long Range 4WD with an estimated price of 1.249 million baht (RM157,648). Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of the year.

The first 1,000 orders will be covered by an eight-year or 200,000km warranty, covering the bike, battery, and motor/system. These early adopters will also receive a Garmin Forerunner 165 watch. All Thai J6 customers will receive a free one-year insurance, a free home charger with installation, and five years of roadside assistance. All of these gifts are for orders placed before November 30.

Previewed here in MayThe Jaecoo J6 was first seen in China last year as the iCar 03 (iCar is also a sub-brand of Chery). The box is slightly shorter than the Toyota Corolla Cross. Length is only 4,406 mm, but quite wide and high at 1,910 mm and 1,715 mm respectively. The 2,715 mm wheelbase is also very spacious.

Note that there are two body styles for this car, one with Jaecoo logo is prominently printed on the frontand another with the original iCar styling and illuminated front badge, as you see here.

Thailand will get the latter version with a 40-liter rear storage “backpack” on the side-opening rear door. Malaysia will also get this style, which looks much nicer than the Jaecoo face.

Inside, bold touches include large grab handles on the centre console and door panels, and even exposed Allen bolt heads. Our Malaysia Autoshow preview unit featured a 9.2-inch instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a panoramic glass roof, and an optional 12-speaker Infinity audio system.

There are two versions of the J6 in Thailand, one with a rear motor producing 184 PS (135 kW) and 220 Nm, the other with an additional front motor for a total system output of 279 PS (205 kW) and 385 Nm. The 2WD version comes with a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a claimed WLTP range of 371 km. The 4WD version gets a slightly larger battery (69.77 kWh) for a WLTP range of 364 km.

As for charging, the maximum AC rate is 6.6 kW while DC fast charging draws up to 80 kW. There’s a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function that can deliver up to 3.3 kW of power. The specs are fine, but the Jaecoo J6’s unique selling point is its square, Defender-style appearance – what do you think?
