We haven’t heard anything about the Tesla Model Y facelift, codenamed “Project Juniper,” since it was reported that the car won’t be hitting showrooms anytime soon – at least not this year. However, user X @Jas0nYuwho claims to bring “electronic insights to Chinese electric vehicles”, recently posted a photo of what is said to be the new electric SUV in its original form, being tested before its launch.
At first glance, this appears to be just a miniature of Highland’s latest release Model 3 performance. Yes Model Y it really does look like a Model 3 has been pulled up through its roof by an excavator, but even the less discerning eye will notice something amiss in this image.
Ignoring the fact that the distorted background and “cambered” wheels make it obvious that this is an edited photo, the car in this image has a much sturdier rear than the real Model Y, thanks to the lower rear deck. Additionally, the front windscreen appears to be mounted too low and as a result the bonnet appears to almost lift up before sloping down to the front instead of sloping at a gentler angle.

Of course, nothing beats a reverse Google Image search, which reveals that the original photo is a spyshot of the Model 3 Performance, taken back in April when the method test drives Original (embargoed) media is being held. This photo along with many others Also made the rounds on this sitewas announced on the electric vehicle portal Zecar.
In case you were wondering, the second photo that @Jas0nYu shared was debunked by an Australian auto website Drive back in January. The moral of the story is that misinformation is everywhere – including, ironically, Elon Musk’s X – and you should do your due diligence (including reverse searching) before sharing a hoax latent.
Either way, the Juniper will likely eventually get all the improvements found on the Model 3 facelift (Project Highland), including a sharper design and a revised interior with a new three-spoke steering wheel, without indicators and levers. windshield wiper, larger 15-inch screen. infotainment touchscreen and 8-inch rear touchscreen.
Additionally, a number of improvements are expected to increase aerodynamic efficiency (which should lead to greater range figures) and reduce noise, vibration and harshness. Many of these have been quietly implemented into the current 2024 model year, including comprehensive double-glazing.
