Healthcare organizations are driving interoperability innovations to improve patient outcomes and physician experience, and all healthcare organizations should prioritize interoperability to achieve a fully connected healthcare ecosystem.
Athenahealth CEO Bob Segert, a principal exhibitor of HIMSS23, said while government initiatives such as the 21st Century Cures Act and CMS Interoperability Promotion Programs is driving the industry forward, the regulations only set a minimum standard.

Doctors want improved connectivity – and clarity
“We did a recent positional sentiment survey and 743 participants and 94% of physicians said improved connectivity can enhance patient outcomes, and 91% said it could improve the doctor’s experience,” Segert said. Healthcare IT News.

The concept of “visual interoperability” is to make the experience of finding essential patient data in the EHR better.
“It’s really trying to make sure that information can be accessed in a way that can be used by doctors,” he explains.
Clinicians need to quickly filter data to get the relevant information they need as they go from patient to patient – rather than trying to scroll through discharge notes and other information.
“It’s like they can’t find what they need,” he said. “They don’t have 15 minutes to prep the patient and sort these things out.”
Parsing data for better usability
By managing patient data and allowing physicians to access it in such a way that they can actually do their jobs more efficiently and effectively, they can provide better care. better squirrel.
“Our view is that interoperability is more than just flat file data,” says Segert. “We believe we can do a lot better.”
