Inside Bangladesh’s War for Independence
On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh finally gained its independence from Pakistan after nine months of war. The conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of people and redrawn the political map of South Asia.
Dr. Kamal Hossain was jailed during the conflict and was released only shortly after the Bengali fighters claimed victory. Then he wrote the constitution of Bangladesh. Dr. Hossain told Witness History of his feelings when his country gained its freedom.
