Ineos unveils a rugged hydrogen-powered off-road vehicle

Ineos unveiled a rugged hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) demo version of it grenade off-road vehicles at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Designed in collaboration with Austrian engineering company AVL, this demonstration Ineos Grenadier use The “latest” FCEV hydrogen powertrain from the BMW Groupwhich it claims is “the most advanced and powerful in the automotive sector”.

Ineos has not provided any details or claims about the outputs on the hydrogen fuel cell powertrain other than to say the electric actuators provide “real torque vectoring drive control”. for each rear wheel”.

The BMW iX5 Hydro powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor generating 295kW of power. It is powered by a fuel cell compartment sourced from Toyota and two 700 bar hydrogen tanks made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The iX5 has a claimed WLTP range of 504 km, and refueling the hydrogen tanks takes between three and four minutes.

Ineos claims to have undergone “rigorous testing” on the Grenadier hydrogen demonstration car to ensure it does not affect its off-road and off-road capabilities as well as its towing ability.

Protesters appear to have “conquered” several trails around the Austrian mountains and various terrain challengers around Graz.

The only visible external change on this Ineos Grenadier FCEV model compared to the regular model is a bulge on the bonnet to accommodate the additional height of the fuel cell.

Ineos says the bonnet bulge won’t appear in the production model.

Other modifications not visible include changes to the Grenadier’s chassis and rear axle to accommodate the electric actuators.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether a production version of this hydrogen-powered Grenadier will ever enter production. ONE electric version will be put into production in 2026.

Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive, said: “The hydrogen-powered Grenadier demonstration car alongside our all-electric model will launch in 2026, demonstrating Ineos’ commitment to digital not net.

“The BEV is perfect for certain uses, shorter trips, most personal car journeys and urban deliveries, while the Hydrogen FCEV is better suited for longer trips. , heavy duty cycle when the battery exerts too much force on the load and long distances between stops are required.”

In addition to this hydrogen Grenadier demonstration, Ineos also revealed Minister Grenadier this is a dual-cabin pickup version of the boxy off-road vehicle.
