Ikelite announces a case for the Sony ZV-1 II

When Sony released the ZV-1 “vlogging camera,” all they really did was repackage their popular product. RX100 Mark V—complete with a 20MP one-inch BSI-CMOS sensor, equivalent to 24–70mm. f/1.8–2.8 lens, 24 fps continuous shooting and 4K/30p and 1080/120p video recording capabilities. With the ZV-1 Mark II, Sony switched to an ultra-wide focal length equivalent to 18–50mm. The f/1.8–4.0 lens is a much better choice for vlogging—not to mention underwater photography. Other specifications remain virtually unchanged.

As with ZV-1Ikelite quickly realized the potential of the Mark II and released it first (and so far only) housing for new model. The main features remain unchanged: signature ABS-PC mixture Transparent body and back, curved shutter lever, hard-anodized aluminum push button, and 67mm threaded front port so you can easily attach wide-angle or macro wet lenses. Ikelite gives you the option to replace the standard gate with their gate DC3 6-inch archway. Designed specifically for compact cases, this port allows you to take wide-angle photos, split photos, and even macro photos. You also have the option of using the case’s accessory port by installing Ikelite’s Sony TTL converter (with baffle and hotshoe) to trigger electric strobe by quickly switching between TTL and manual exposure.

Available now from retailers such as backscatterIkelite’s Sony ZV-1 II case costs $595.

PRESS RELEASE

Underwater protective case for Sony ZV-1 II digital camera

Full-featured and durable underwater housing for the Sony ZV-1 Mark II Digital Camera. Suitable for scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, swimming and any application in or around water.

Construction

Our specially formulated ABS-PC composite case is highly durable yet lightweight to carry on the go. Bright colors keep your camera cooler when shooting in warm, sunny environments.

Lens support

The WD-3 wide-angle dome provides a mid-range viewing angle without vignetting (shadows at the corners of the image).

INON UWL-H100#64310, W-30#6430 Wide Angle Lens and other 67mm threaded wide angle lenses, provide a wider maximum angle of view. Because they are separated from the camera lens by glass, air, and water, some vignetting and edge distortion occurs. You can reduce or eliminate these effects by using a smaller aperture, zooming in slightly, and/or cropping in post-production.

67mm threaded external macro lenses include INON UCL-165 M67 #64312, Subsee, Nauticam, Epoque and other manufacturers, which can mount directly to the port front of the housing.

3″ diameter color filters press directly into these ports. Most wide-angle lenses require 3.6″ diameter color filters. Refer to the product page for color filter compatibility information.

The DC3 6″ Dome #6403 offers the best of everything: wide angle, macro, and over-under all in one dive. This special dome replaces the case’s standard port and provides a sharp and flawless 24mm wide angle. Perfect for split shots (half in, half out of water). Approximately 3/4 of the camera’s zoom range is usable behind the dome, and macro photography can be taken with the dome attached.

Flash option

The ZV-1 camera does not have a built-in flash. External strobes from most manufacturers can be connected via C1 Hotshoe #46071, optional B1A Bulkhead #46002, and compatible sync cords.

Most Ikelite DS strobes can be triggered by manual exposure and TTL using the DL2 DS Link Sony TTL Converter Ikelite ST1 Hotshoe and B1A Bulkhead Kit #46045 and a compatible sync cord. Our Sony TTL converter circuit works perfectly for both macro and wide-angle photography. DS Link has a push button to quickly switch back and forth between TTL and manual.

Wi-Fi transmission

Use the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi feature to download photos to another device without removing the camera from its case. The Wi-Fi feature can only be used over water at a close distance to the connected device.

Compatibility

Unless otherwise noted, this case does not allow the use of additional grips, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

Differences in lens and control position make it impossible for other camera models to be used or adapted to this case. We are not aware of any other models that could be used or adapted to this house.
