I had to create a TikTok account for this. I have been adamant not to do so for a long time. However, this is what is worth mentioning and sometimes even dangerous. In this post, we’re going to dive into the world of TikToks that take horrible photos.
If you want to create unique works, you should stop looking at photography and immerse yourself in the world of art that is not made with a camera. TikTok is probably my least favorite platform personally. If I had to explain my reasons for hating TikTok, I could easily create a bunch of articles. To sum up, TikTok is a more addictive platform than any other social network. The concept of “hacking TikTok” has been notoriously stupid and useless. While there is relevant content on TikTok, the percentage of that content is small. In short, it’s not worth anyone’s time. What’s worse is that Instagram and YouTube have copied TikTok, meaning someone can easily experience TikTok without having to download the app. You might be wondering how I see these horrible photo-taking TikToks. The answer is simple: by watching them on Instagram and YouTube. I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but I’m guessing that a large percentage of Shorts and Stories are just TikTok videos.
Scenario ‘Portrait of Strangers’
Put yourself in the shoes of a beautiful girl walking in Times Square. How will you react when two or more people with cameras approach you? One of them is asking to take your picture, while the other is filming the process. Sure, there are a lot of people who would be happy to have portraits taken, but I’m not sure if there are many as happy to be filmed, photographed, and approached by a group of strangers.
These TikToks are deceiving, as it shows that you can get good pictures with any stranger in any popular location. The truth is quite different. Having tried such types of photography myself, I find it quite rare that people agree, as most of us don’t wander the streets these days. Everyone has places to go, which means they rarely say yes to a street portrait.
The other thing is that these photos are always the same. It’s usually something in the direction of neon lights, lens shadows, and crazy bokeh. I don’t know why, but some companies insist on advertising images that look like this. The final product is often oversaturated, too sharp, and just looks amateurish. The reason I say it looks amateur isn’t because the image isn’t technically perfect; it’s because of the picture of the photo. Because it looks like a million other photos, it just lets the viewer know that the creator of this photo is more interested in replicating a photo than creating their own authentic work.
Take pictures of garbage, literally
People literally take pictures of trash, edit it like trash, and it looks like trash.
TikTok photography can be described with some pretty gruesome edits. There are some conventions that you cannot break when editing images. It seems funny to me that TikTok has a unique editing style for the platform. Usually, the image is too saturated, too contrasting, the skin looks too fake and the eyes too bright. Another big problem is too much HDR. One way or another, the photo is just overprocessed. Unfortunately, this is because photographers are just trying to copy their favorite creators.
You can even buy presets from your favorite creators to take pictures like them. In fact, this is how many of them make extra money. Pre-order sales are very popular. smoke bomb
Smoke bomb photography is one of the worst trends that never seems to go away. It usually involves a “mood” setting with some pumpkins, masks, and hoodies. It can also include a girl wearing a baseball cap. Another popular fashion statement is the Adidas track pants. While there’s nothing wrong with using the smoke technique in your image creation, I can see a few reasons not to repeat the same shot over and over again, mainly because this tells the audience what to do. assume that you can hardly produce realistic images. job. That’s not to say the smoke looks bad. It doesn’t, and it is a common thing among fashion and portrait photographers. It adds depth and dimension if used properly. Products like Atmospheric Sprays are extremely fun to use and enhance many boring images.
But what I’m talking about is the photo where the focal point is a girl in Adidas tracksuits standing in front of an abandoned building surrounded by smoke. This is just an image for nothing, that’s why I advise you to stay away from the production of such works.
Really dangerous things
The worst of them are the ones that are really dangerous to do. These TikTok tricks can land you in the hospital if you’re not careful enough. If you want to try these “sick” tricks, at least wear goggles. I was stupid enough to try some of these myself. 
The “sick” idea of taking photos of people standing on train tracks, the edges of buildings, under lawn mowers or any other place where you could get injured should be completely banned by the platform itself. . These trends are just as bad as the Tide Pod challenge, in which people will bite into laundry pods or even cook them. This leads to some people being hospitalized and even a few dying. The same goes for people taking pictures on train tracks. There have been a number of deaths caused by taking pictures on train tracks. Therefore, if you are putting your life in jeopardy because of TikTok trends, maybe you should rethink some of the life decisions that got you there. This is probably in the same league as excessive gender reveal parties, which are known to contaminate water, cause wildfires and explosions so powerful that they cause earthquakes.
If I had to give one piece of advice to people watching TikTok take pictures, it would be: stop.
