IHH Healthcare migrates Malaysian database system, S’pore to the cloud

Private healthcare group IHH Healthcare has migrated several on-premises database systems of hospitals across Malaysia and Singapore to the cloud.

IHH Singapore’s core application workloads, including electronic medical records (EMRs), enterprise data warehouses and laboratory information systems (LIS), have been migrated to Facility Services Oracle Exadata data on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Meanwhile, IHH Malaysia has consolidated its data systems, including patient management system, appointment booking system, LIS and billing, and migrated them to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer.

In a statement, Oracle stated that its cloud service was chosen for its “high performance that is scalable and integrates high availability, data protection, security, and disaster recovery capabilities.”

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

As one of the world’s largest healthcare networks with more than 80 hospitals across 10 countries, IHH Healthcare requires a “robust” database platform to manage and secure data volumes simultaneously. Harness that data to improve patient outcomes.

Consolidating disparate on-premises systems in the cloud is part of IHH’s effort to modernize hospital operations in its home market.

“This migration marks an important step towards establishing a unified digital healthcare ecosystem, critical to dismantling data silos and enhancing capabilities,” said CIO Linus Tham. data analytics capabilities for our physicians.”

According to Oracle, the move also “improves the user experience for patients and clinicians with faster and more reliable access to secure, up-to-date information.”

Additionally, IHH is leveraging Oracle’s cloud while remaining compliant with local regulatory requirements.

BIGGER TREND

The A recent survey report by LEK Consulting noted that information technology and patient data adoption is generally high in hospitals in Southeast Asia, although it has not yet caught up with the adoption rate of peer hospitals in major Asian economies such as China and India.

For example in Singapore, According to a Philips survey report last year, many hospitals are looking to or have started using cloud-based and workflow technologies like EMR and flow automation to somewhat reduce The impact of health care workforce shortages is growing.

Taking a collaborative approach to digitalization is one way hospitals in Malaysia are taking to enhance the patient experience. Island Hospital is leveraging EMR and mobile technology to facilitate collaboration in preventative care. In January last year, the Malaysian Medical Tourism Council signed a memorandum of understanding with HIMSS to collaborate on strengthening the digital capabilities of local hospitals, promoting the “Malaysia Healthcare” brand.

The The transition to public and hybrid cloud models for EMR systems and individual services, while recognized for their value, remains an “unchartered territory” in Asia-Pacific, HIMSS noted from a recent roundtable with government representatives and regional health authorities there.
