Gervonta Davis has some important work to do before the announced game against Ryan Garcia next year.

“We’re going back to training camp as soon as today because we didn’t sleep with this guy,” Davis said Monday during a press conference. “I know we have two battles lined up, but I’m just focused on this one.

Davis (27-0.25 KOs) is already famous, three-division champion and one of the most respected boxers in the world. He’s 10th on Boxing Junkie’s weight and ladder list.
However, a win over Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) and another win in the big skirmish with Garcia will bring him closer to the superstar.
“This is just me trying to get over that hump,” Davis said. “I don’t think it’s a dream come true. I’m still not where I want to be. This fight is the next step.”

Davis has not fought in the area since he stopped Ricardo Nunez in Baltimore in July 2019.
“It’s good to be back home,” he said. “All the greats fought here and now I have to go home and organize a great event. I like people getting together to have a party. That’s what it is.
Of course, Garcia desperately wanted to ruin the party.
The 2016 Olympic athlete from the Dominican Republic had a great year, stopping Colbert and then easily overtaking Roger Gutierrez for the 130-pound belt in August.
Garcia knows that most people see him as an opportunity to beat Davis, especially since he will gain weight for the match. He claims that he is capable of causing the second biggest upset in three fights.
“I’m not afraid of anything people say,” he said. “I know who I am and I know what to do. My preparation is very good so I will be ready to give 100%. … I know I’m up against one of the best boxers out there, but I’m completely confident that I have what it takes to win.
“I am taking my normal approach to this fight. I am also a great fighter. I have Olympic experience. We have no reason to change our preparations for this war.”
What if Garcia wins? He likes the idea of facing Garcia, although he believes his biggest test will come on January 7.
“If I beat Tank on January 7, I would be happy to play Ryan Garcia,” he said. “I don’t think he’s on the same level as me and Gervonta.”
