The report notes “two types” of hybrids, potentially suggesting that the Palisade will follow the smaller Santa Fe to get both conventional and plug-in hybrid systems.

While the current Santa Fe’s mid-life update sees it switch to a new platform that supports hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, the Palisade’s mid-life update makes no such move. .

That leaves it with no electrification option and therefore no rival for models like Toyota Kluger mixture.

That hasn’t stopped it from continuing to gain popularity in South Korea, so it became Hyundai’s best-selling SUV there last year.

It arrives locally at the end of 2020, with a choice of 3.8-litre V6 petrol and 2.2-litre turbodiesel.

The V6 produces 217 kW of power and 355 Nm of torque, but is only available with front-wheel drive although all-wheel drive is offered on the left-drive Palisades V6.

The turbo-diesel engine produces 147kW and 440Nm, and uses significantly less fuel (7.3L/100km vs 10.7L/100km).

Hyundai sold 4000 Palisades in Australia, up 7.5% year-on-year.

Palisade will have the company in the most advanced segment of Hyundai SUV line, with electric motor ioniq 7 launch in 2024.
