Hyundai Kona EV, Walmart charging network, EV performance and EPA rules: Today’s Car News
Hyundai has a new entry-level EV on the road. Walmart is getting into the battery charging business, and it’s huge. And should the EPA reward more efficient EVs? This and more, at Green Car Reports.
Hyundai will introduce the car to the US cheaper version of the Kona EV, with a smaller 48.6-kwh battery and an expected range of nearly 200 miles, it revealed last week. And while the Kona Hybrid is a key part of its global rollout, it won’t come to the US — underscoring a very different strategy from Toyota and rival Corolla Cross Hybrid.
Retailers Walmart plans to build its own EV fast charging network. In a vision much larger than what it currently has with Electrify America, Walmart plans to have “thousands” of chargers at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores by 2030. And it hints that low prices will be part of the plan.
And with the Biden administration due to set greenhouse gas standards later in the decade, one advocacy group has renewed its call for regulation not to count all electric vehicles equally. Should EPA rules encourage more efficient electric vehicles?
