We also have a shared calendar — but the other person has permission to read it. This way my girlfriend can add all of her actual shifts, lecture times and homework due dates and I can make sure she doesn’t forget — reduce, please plan my naps around her schedule.
One advantage of this setup is that we can use any calendar application that we like. My girlfriend sticks with the built-in Google Calendar app, but I’m a huge fan of Illusory on macOS and iOS.
Trello board
Even before the productivity overhaul, it wasn’t hard to avoid emergency fires — the dogs were fed, my work was (mostly) done, we didn’t go too many days without a bath. . The problem is that we never really managed to sort out the things we wanted to do, such as a dog agility lesson, a film photography course that interests me, or a day at the spa. . Once or twice a week, we have a conversation about one of these things, but we never actually take action. That’s where Trello comes in.
Trello fans are really annoyed. So sad, they are also right. Trello is a great way to track many different moving pieces.
If you’re not familiar with Trello, basically digital whiteboard with everything organized into columns that you can configure however you need. We have columns set up for different household chores, dogs, ourselves, trips we plan to take, and other things relevant to our lives.
Every potential task, plan or whatever gets a card in the appropriate column. There was one for those agility lessons, another for my course, and a third for that weekend spa session. We can then add comments, share links, and generally just plan things out properly.
There are a lot of more advanced Trello features that we haven’t used so we can use the free plan, but so far that means the things we want to do are happening more often — and less often. Busier last minute.
A central note taking app
Just as important as planning for the future, we also have a lot going on right now that we need to keep an eye on — like the names of our favorite bartenders and bartenders. me, or how to make Mexican chicken salad. To do that, we needed a central note-taking application, a database and an information dump location.
We use Handmade, which I love for its versatility, but it’s currently a macOS and iOS exclusive (though a web app is coming soon). It’s part of a new kind of note-taking app built around linking notes to other notes that are linked to other notes. Basically, you create your own personal Wikipedia for your life. Concept and Obsidian are two of the other standout cross-platform options you can try here, but you can also use any app that lets you share notes with others.
