Growing up, we always called the “Dutch braid” the French inside-out braid. I didn’t know there was another name for it, so when someone asked me if I knew how to do a Dutch braid, my answer was pretty quick “I don’t think so.”
When I did a little research, I found out that they are one and the same. If you know how to do French braids, this hairdo tutorial is very easy.
You are basically just reversing the direction of the braid. If you don’t have much experience in French braids, that’s okay!
I’ve broken down the Dutch braiding steps for you, so you’ll be braiding in no time (like a pro).
Step 1: Divide the hair on the top of your head into three sections.
Step 2: You will start braiding, but instead of crossing your strands TOO thin in the middle, you will braid BELOW.
Step 3-4: Once you’ve braided it twice, take a side section of hair and add it to one of your curls. You will cross this section BELOW the middle curl.
Step 5-6: Repeat on the next side, making sure to even and continue to cross under the center curl each time.
Step 7: Continue braiding your hair down.
Step 8: Once you’ve reached the base of the neck, continue braiding until you reach the bottom.
Step 9: (optional) Twist the bottom of the braid into a bun and pin it in place.
