Next door neighbor
In the game, Joel and Sarah live next door to the Coopers. Poor, unfortunate Jimmy Cooper became the first infected person Joel and Sarah encountered, and Joel shot and killed him after breaking into their home.
In the series, Joel and Sarah live next door to the Adlers — and boy, can we get to know them a little more intimately. It is revealed that Sarah often goes next door to spend time with the Adler family, including her grown-up neighbor Connie and her ailing elderly mother. We see Sarah visit them after school, which is pretty innocent, until the old lady starts transforming behind Sarah’s back as she’s picking a movie to take home.
The next morning, the Adlers’ terrified dog gets Sarah’s attention by jumping on her family room window, startling Sarah and forcing her out. When she got there, she heard a commotion in the house next door and walked into Adler’s house trembling. Once inside, she smears some blood before discovering the elderly woman is eating the neck of Connie, her stepdaughter, with a mysterious fungus sprouting from her mouth.
They warned us about this.
The strange case of Robert
A notorious and unreliable arms dealer, Robert do Robin Atkin Downes in the game. He is said to sell guns to Joel and Tess—do Annie Wersching—but it is revealed that he unloaded them elsewhere. Of course, this doesn’t work for Joel and Tess—so they confront him at his old warehouse in Sector 5.
Once there, Robert told them that he had sold guns to the Firefly militia. Enraged, Tess shot him in the head and killed him.
While in the series, when we first meet Tess (Torv), she trades with Robert, after being beaten up by some of his men. Instead of a gun, however, Tess wanted the truck battery that Robert had sold them. However, instead of telling Joel, Tess said she would keep quiet about the whole thing if Robert let her “go home and drink until my face hurts”.
That’s when the room they were in exploded, helping Tess escape.
Joel and Tess vow to hunt down Robert, retrieve the battery, and make their way to Joel’s brother Tommy (Luna). However, by the time they found Robert, he was already dead after an apparent attack by an infected member. He was also lying next to the dead battery.
At least Tess’s hands are clean.
