How Steph Curry Showed Support for Brittney Griner at ESPYS 2022
Athletes attending ESPYS 2022 couldn’t help but notice a sports star missing in the audience.
In the live TV show, the host Stephen the curry joined the WNBA players Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith voice support Brittney Grinerwho are still detained in Russia.
While Stephen said he was “proud” to declare the WNBA the humanitarian sport of the year, he wanted to acknowledge Brittney’s absence from the sport.
“We can’t stop fighting for her,” he said inside the Dolby Theater on July 20. “We can’t stop believing in her. We won’t stop hoping for the day we can greet her. She got home safely.”
Brittney is an eight-time WNBA All-Star and an Olympic gold medalist. For 153 nights, she was detained in Russia after she was arrested in February at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport for allegedly possessing a vape box containing cannabis oil. On July 7, the basketball player pleaded guilty to drugs and said she did not act intentionally.
