The House of Representatives voted to censor Democrat Adam Schiff for his past actions as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee in spearheading investigations into the then-President. Donald Trump.
The vote was completely partisan, with the California congressman calling the resolution “false and false.” Democrats tried to block the bill from moving forward but were unsuccessful.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy called Schiff to the well of the room as he read aloud the censorship resolution. Democrats shouted loudly as McCarthy began to read the resolution, prompting him to stop and start several times.
“I have all night,” McCarthy said when interrupted by boos from Democrats.
The resolution claims Schiff misled the American public during a congressional investigation into the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia, as other investigations found no convincing evidence that Trump colluded with him. Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Luna was at the forefront of efforts to criticize Schiff. Wednesday’s vote comes a week after nearly two dozen Republican House members voted alongside Democrats to introduce a similar proposal that could impose a $16 million fine. la for Schiff. Schiff is running for the Senate in California and has been crowdfunded from possible censorship.
Before the vote, Schiff thanked his GOP colleagues for the resolution.
“You glorify me with your hatred. You flatter me with this falsehood. You, the author of a big lie about the last election, must condemn those who tell the truth and I am proud of myself. proudly stand before you,” Schiff said in the House of Commons.
“I led the first impeachment against Donald Trump, for one of the most egregious abuses of power in our history, and I led a trial that led to the first bipartisan vote to oust him. remove a president in history,” he said.

The last time the House voted to censor a member was in 2021, when Democrats took control of the house. Wednesday’s resolution against Schiff isn’t the only hot-button measure the House could vote on this week. Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced impeachment resolutions targeting members of the Biden administration, and Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert introduced a privileged resolution to impeach Biden himself. It is unclear when potential votes on those resolutions will take place.
