One big surprise this model is calling for at Masters 2022: Rory McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Augusta and finishes outside the top 10. The 32-year-old finished first in the CJ Cup earlier this season, his 20th PGA Tour win.
McIlroy is a four-time major champion and was able to complete the big showdown of his career with a win at Augusta National. However, he still could not grasp the coveted blue jacket despite wearing it many times. McIlroy has finished in the top 10 in six of the last eight games that started at Augusta, but the pressure for the blue jacket seems to be on him. He’s 21st or worse in two of his last three starts at Augusta, including a slip in 2021. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and has much better values in the Masters Tournament 2022.
Another surprise: Patrick Cantlay, a long shot 20-1, delivers a powerful blow to the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a high-paying day. Cantlay has had some strong performances this season, including a second-place finish at the WM Phoenix Open. He also finished in the top 5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His performances at Augusta National have been strong, as he finished 9th in 2019 before taking 17th last year.
