Hero dog needs stitches after defending family against mountain lion

Dogs will always be the most loyal companions. They’ve proven it time and time again throughout the years as we keep hearing stories about heroic dogs.

Another such story concerns a brave gaur named Rocky who fought a mountain lion to protect his family.

The fearless dog hit the giant cat outside his family home in La Verne, California, just off the edge of the Angeles National Forest.

The entire ordeal was captured on the family’s surveillance video camera, and it shows young Rocky chasing a cat three times his size. But as brave as he was, he couldn’t get out without getting hurt. Rocky ended up badly injured, requiring 30 stitches.

Rocky’s owner, Mary Padres, recalls the ordeal, saying, “The mountain lion was looking right at me. It is very large. ”

In that moment, Rocky jumped into action, protecting his owner by chasing the big cat and chasing it out of the backyard and into the hills behind their home.

Padres added, “The whole reason he was chasing the mountain lion was to make sure I was okay.”

Despite knowing the potential dangers, since mouth lions might still be lurking in the vicinity, Padres knew she had to chase Rocky and bring him home. The entire Padres family took their flashlights and went out in search of their hero dog, calling his name in the dark. That’s when they found him, bleeding and wounded from eight major wounds, and rushed home for medical attention.

His injuries were quite significant, as Padres shared with CBS LA that they “saw the hole all the way to his brain.” Despite how badly he was injured, the canine hero was able to make a full recovery.

Thereafter, the California Fish and Wildlife Service was investigating the attack to determine if the animal posed a threat to the public.

The Padres family established a GoFundMe to raise money for Rocky’s life-saving surgery. Not only did they hit their $3,000 goal, but they exceeded it!
