While there are precautions you can take, sometimes you can’t stop a stubborn dog from eating something they’re not supposed to. Not to mention, it’s not always predictable what your dog will decide is edible. They’re just weird like that.
A family in the UK got worried when their 12-week-old Daisy puppy, Bichon Frise, stopped eating. Things go from worrying to worrying when Daisy throws up money. Literally.
They found a 2-pound coin in her vomit.

The family brought Daisy to veterinary charity PDSA, where she was X-rayed. That’s when the doctors learned what made Daisy so sick.
Turns out she consumed £2.68 coins. As PDSA shared on Facebook:
“During the surgery, the veterinary team removed twenty coins from her stomach, including 13 1ps coins, three 5s coins, two 20s coins and two £1 coins. Daisy swallowed the total. plus 2.68 pounds! “
Naturally, Daisy’s family was shocked by this discovery. What is it about coins that make them seem like a delicious treat? Daisy doesn’t just stop at a coin; she ate a bunch.
Later, Daisy’s mother, Ivana, explained:
“I couldn’t believe it when the PDSA rang to tell me that Daisy had swallowed so many coins. My wallet was lost and we searched high and low to find it, not thinking that it was Daisy who ran away. I didn’t know a puppy would even eat something like this and we were all worried and scared maybe losing her.”

Now that we’re sure Daisy will be fine, you really have to compliment her commitment to eating money. Sally Frith, a veterinary nurse at Derby PDSA Pet Hospital, said:
“Daisy broke a new record – we couldn’t believe how many cents she ate, especially for such a tiny puppy. The coins caused a blockage that, if left, could be fatal so it was good business for her owner to take her to the PDSA when she did. “
Since the surgery, Daisy has returned to the hospital for follow-up and reports that “she is recovering and healing well.” She’s on painkillers and antibiotics, but she’ll be fine (and hopefully wiser from the experience).
Let this be a reminder to all dog parents: you can never really be predictable. Your dog will develop a preference for what.
